PS - Is it true..."Most coins of significant value were removed from circulation in the 50's" ?

Paul, I wouldn't worry at all about grade until you sort by date. if it a common date like a 1964 Kennedy half it is going to sell for melt if it has seen any circulation at all. the 1941 halves you showed will sell for melt in the condition shown as well. same with the 1948 Franklin half. The Walking Liberty halves do have some rarities in the series so sort these and do a little research. Any Franklin halves need to be in pretty much uncirculated to really go for more than melt price. Most circulated Washington quarters will sell for melt, with a few exceptions. 1932D and 1932s will definitely go for more. Roosevelt dimes are pretty much melt value unless mint condition. Merc dimes have a few that might go for more, sort these and do some research. 14x face is a great price for selling, my dealer was selling at 14x face last time I checked 3 weeks ago.

The top left Walking Liberty is nowhere close to being a MS-60 coin.

Could you post a list by date and mintmark of the older halves, quarters, and dimes?

The Pre-34 Halves and Dimes usually command some premium, as do the mintmarked Quarters prior to 1940 (along with the 1940-D and 1955-D). I know this personally as I have sold quite a few on ebay.

I agree with most comments here. I would either check the dates yourself or list them here and the experts will chime in immediately and tell you which not to sell for spot or common prices. if there are any errors or varieties, there will be somebody who knows each coin and be able to tell you which are worth more. Or you can always look them up on Coin World or find a Red Book. (which is retail prices. blue book has slightly lower values is what coin shops will likely pay you for each coin)

Best of luck with your lot.

Agree. In the lower VF range in my opinion.

To be more specific regarding the non-MS60 grade, compare the AU53 example at PCGS (which is a little clearer). The high points on your coin are worn nearly smooth. The AU53 clearly shows her eye, the borders of her dress at the neckline, stripes on the flag, and individual branches of whatever it is she's carrying. A similar level of detail should be visible on the reverse, including individual feathers throughout.

Silver is up compared to a few months ago (thanks Brexit!) but IMO the time to dump silver is either when it hits $35/oz or you are hurting for cash.

Are you on ebay? If not join, and check your messages every few days. Last month I got a promo code that capped my seller fees at $50, meaning that everything I sold over about $450 was 100% mine. Even with the 13% fee, posting a massive pile of silver with visible classics will net you a lot more than a dealer will offer.

Hi All ~
I certainly appreciate all of the input. It made one realize that the Coin World is not one dimensional, as I am sure most believe. While it is disheartening to find that you do not have what you thought you had, that's okay, the education made it worth it. At the end of the day, I suspect I have a pretty large pile of melt. Before I do that, there was a suggestion that I sort by date and mint and post a list. I may have to go back and check the earlier years for quarters to see if there were mint marks that I failed to note.

So here goes...

Can you post a pics of the halves from 1939 and before? a group pic should be fine; pick out a dozen or so of the nicest coins so we can estimate the grade. same for the early quarters and dimes would really be big help in getting an idea of the grade

The 1917S half is reverse and to be honest it is real worn.

the 1942P nickel is a War Nickel. 35% silver; worth a buck or two in normal circulated condition.
