My Mother asked me to look into what this Short Snorter bill might be worth. I've looked at several ebay auctions with similar items, but haven't been able to find another with the Officers Club stamp on it. Does this make a difference in it's worth? Any info is appreciated! Thank you!!

You may want to check out shortsnoter.org and red about the Short Snorter project. They collect images of bills like yours and list the names in an index.

As for the officers club stamp .... I don't know that it would change the value that much. It seems to me that people collect them just because they want them or else they are searching for famous names. The ones with famous names are worth more.

I had to do some searching on this one as I posted a comment a few years ago on TOPIC_ID=151599 .

I think your note would be of interest to them..

In the notes current condition, and knowing that none of the signatures are relatives of yours, I would be tempted to donate it to one of the WWII memorial/museum links below providing it remain on public display (with credit to the donor) to honor those lost on December 7, 1941.

No, it doesn't. But I found this: http://pearlharbor75thanniversary.com/

I wonder if there will be tokens or special coinage available?

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

After reading up on these, we've decided to keep it in the family after all. My sister is going to frame it and keep it in the family. The history behind the bill makes for an awesome keepsake to pass down. Thank you all for the quick and informative replies!
Rest in Peace

Excellent plan -- I like it when stuff stays in the family.

If you get the time, send a copy of the pic to the Short Snorter project site and spell out whatever names that you can for them. That way everybody can enjoy it.

Somewhere in the world there may still be the other four notes with the same signatures. Maybe...

Use archival glass to keep the signatures from fading, anymore.

And a varm velcome!

The stamp reads Barking Sands Army Air Base Officers' Club & Mess

Page 42 on this link shows where it was located http://www.cnic.navy.mil/content/da...-%201949.pdf

On this second link it states that the Officers' Club was completed in July of 1942. http://www.cnic.navy.mil/content/da...1-1945-8.pdf

A neat piece of WWII history thanks for sharing.

The officers club stamp itself does not add much although it does make for interesting provenance.

Short snorters are valued based on the signers or the events surrounding the signing. Although signatures of famous people (usually USO performers) can add to the value of a short snorter, so can signatures of less well known people. There is a market for signatures of Medal of Honor recipients, personnel killed in action, survivors of significant engagements (Pearl Harbor, Bataan, etc.). Among military collectors there are people who specialize in collecting items from particular units (airborne, Marine Raiders, etc.) that can drive up the price of an otherwise unremarkable set of signatures.

And, of course, there is the personal side. I have tracked down family of signers and in some cases sent the note to them. In other cases I sent a scan. (It is difficult to decide who would merit receiving a note with more than one signature).

I would pay a significant premium for a note signed by my uncle who was KIA on Iwo Jima.

In this case there is undoubtedly more sentimental value than monetary.

Great idea.

The true value of the vast majority of short snorters I've seen is the "family keepsake" value.
