This thread is NOT about bank/teller stamps.

Ink-Error?-Paper-Anomaly?-Help!-High-Res-Photos

Pictured below is a 2013 $1 B/C note with a mysterious line running vertically from edge to edge. The line is located approximately 1/3 he way from the right edge on the obverse. The line, viewed under 10x and 20x magnification (loupe), appears to be under the design, and is detailed below running *under* some of the red and blue security fibers. The line does not show at all on the reverse, and is not detectible by touch (running a finger gently over it.) My initial assumption is that this hair line is either part of the raw paper, or is an artifact left after the first printing by one of the printing plates.

ALSO: This is the 5th or 6th note I've come across with identical (or nearly identical) marks. The commonality between all the notes: series 2006, 2009, and 2013 are the years I've witnessed, the line is always vertical, the line is always the same thickness and color, the line is always within the first or last third of the note (always runs through a seal/serial), and is always perfectly straight, and at a 90 degree angle to the top/bottom edges.

I would *love* to know the exact cause of this anomaly. Have you come across any of these? Thanks in advance for any and all replies!

Oh, and it's not a pencil mark. Failed the eraser test. That was my very first thought.

Cool. How do you determine if it is under the design ?

Hi Steve. I can't be certain. It appears to be, at least, under the overprint portion. But that's simply the best I can tell with a 10x loupe and the above photos. Really hoping someone with insight comes upon this post eventually.

Great photos; amazing detail! Unfortunately the line breaks right at the intersection with the red fiber so it's really hard to say for certain if it goes over or under the red fiber.

Thanks Celtic! I'm considering that the red fiber pictured may have obstructed the line, as it's slightly raised off the paper at one end. Which may be a sign that the line was made during printing, and not somehow part of the paper.
