Congratulations!! It is a very hard set to put together for a reasonable price. Both your keys are strong so it should hold its value and climb nicely over time. Do you mind revealing what you paid for your two keys?

I'd love to see better pictures of the 1877. You might want to consider soaking the 1909S in pure acetone and removing that green stuff (lightly with a toothpick).

Grats! I cant wait to finish a set. I do the opposite though, I go slow and buy them once and that way I dont have to spend more money on upgrades.
Good job :)

That is such a fun set to complete.:) Congratulations How long did it take from start to finish? It took me almost three years with the 77 being the last one to snuggle into my Waite Raymond book.

The 1877 is such a deep, dark mahogany color, it's tough to get a good pic. Both coins are in ANACS holders, the 1877 is cleaned. Here's a detail pic of the 77, just remember it's dark in hand, but you get blues and purples when it's tipped in the light, so I'm thinking MS70 maybe? We used our Tax return to buy them, they were $1700 for the pair. We looked at 1909 S VDB's, 3 legged Buffs, 1928 Peace, all sorts of fun coins, but decided to finish off the album with these. I had sooooo much fun.

DO NOT CLEAN THOSE COINSThose are great coins but if you start experimenting to get rid of dirt, grime, etc and you do not know exactly what you are doing, POOF, there goes those coins. Remember you are talking about coins that have less than a million made. Check with the Mint. I think they'll tell you they are not going to make them again so be carefull with them. I've a load of questions. For one thing are you planning on keeping all of them in slabs? Are they all in slabs now? Do you use a album such as Whitman or Dansco? I know if you do use Whitman, the album starts with the Flying Eagle cents so do you save those also? As you start to upgrade are you planning on starting a second set with the first sets rejects? Or just putting them in 2x2's and storing? Or trying to sell? Myself, over the many years of collecting I did as you did. Start with anything to fill holes. Then I take the ones from set #1 and put in a new set #2. Then eventually I take the one from set #2 and put into set #3 and on and on and on and on. At first I put the removed ones from a set and they end up in 2x2's and in a box. When enough to start another album, I take all the 2x2's apart and start the next set. Now I have over 100 Albums and still thinking of more.

Wow Carl, that's a lot of questions... At first I was going to crack them out to put in the album, but I have since decided that keeping them in the slabs may be better for the long run. These 2 coins are so heavily counterfeited, that the slab gives peace of mind. I have both a Dansco and a Whitman. The Dansco gets the A(upgraded) coins, the Whitman gets the B's. Yes, both albums start with the Flying Eagles. So I have 1 full, and 1 partial set, and a handful or so of extras that I probably will sell. I am still doing a happy dance, they are not MS coins, but they are mine, and I like them a lot.

Oh, and Carl, the MS70 comment was just an observation of what might have been used already on the coin because of the blues and purples it displays. It sure isn't a typical cleaned looking copper coin. And I have no intention of doing anything but enjoying them.

Yep, that looks like ms70 to me too. It really gives copper an odd sheen and color that is sort of recognizable once you hve seen "the look" I cracked my 77 out but kept the insert for some credibility. It looks like you done good:)

Very interesting set, how much did you pay for the whole set.

A full circulated set minus the 09s and 77 will cost around $500 if you buy it already put together by someone else. I already had a partial set and adding to it was getting very expensive so I bought one on ebay and put the two together, hence the full and partial sets. If you try and put it together by yourself in high grades, it will be many multiples of that.
