http://www.ebay.com/sch/Coins-Paper...-c-dshoppingPretty sure some of these counterstamps were not even used on columnarios, especially not ones that do not appear to have been circulated. This has been discussed for years, but they still sell routinely for upwards of $100. I'm sure there is some shill bidding there, but I wonder if people are bidding because they are fools or because they intent to fool others. I really hate stuff like this.

Maybe "fool" is too strong a word. Lack of knowledge, combined with being blinded by the possibility of a "bargain" might be sufficient.

Seller, or-c-dshopping, from Jasper, AR, has sold no less than 39 of these fakes lately, as recently as yesterday. Example, for the record:

There was a seller who had sold thousands of fake silver bars. I reported and reported, nothing. Buyers were leaving positive feedback. He had 10+ auctions every night for 10 1oz silver bars. It was sick. A fool and his money...

Every one of those columnarios is bogus. So are the stamps. All bad - all WORTHLESS. Is there shill bidding involved? Of course there is. I used to report shill bidding patterns but ebay never acted on that. Then they hid the bidder identities so honest buyers had no chance of spotting shill bidding. Does ebay know? Absolutely. Do they care? Absolutely not! Why? They get a cut of the final sales price. Can it be stopped? Not under current ebay management policy. You can report these auctions and get one or two removed. Perhaps even get one or two thousand removed. But until ebay penalizes the sellers BEHIND the fake names with permanent bans and they enforce the bans, it is all a big waste of time. The managers at ebay know the big players involved. How do I know? I worked for ebay and tracked down several of the big players by following the money trail and the shipping origins of hundreds of sales of forgeries. Several of us did the same thing. Result we were all let go. We cost ebay too much profit.

The worst thing I've been seeing lately is Perth Mint branded fake gold bars. ebay is flooded with them.

Did you notice that Solomon925 uses the "Private Feedback" feature conveniently provided by ebay to disguise feedback. Another in ebay's series of steps intended to make it more difficult for the average buyer to protect themselves. All you can see is a number NOT the reason for the number.

Yes, I did. IMHO, big dealers like APMEX and silvertowne who deal on ebay, need to push ebay hard to get rid of the counterfeit junk. It's bad for ebay, it's bad for those dealers, and it's bad for the precious metals market in general.
