I just got my learner's permit in the mail today. NC has some REALLY strict requirements. I can only drive between 5am and 9pm with only one passenger in the back seat and a supervising driver in the front seat. I also need to get 60 hours of day driving and 10 hours of night driving. Anyway, I'm really excited about it and I hope I can get my full licence in a year!

Congratulations ! Be Very Careful ! I started to give several warnings, but will knock it down to two:
1. Pay attention to what your are doing. Its a large object that can cause lots of damage to place and/or person.
2. Be sure that you make it home. If you have to drive slower, not ride with someone impaired, or delay your trip, making it home is the ultimate goal !

Look out, world! Congrats! Good advice from Fuzzy. My Two Cents, put the cell phone away until you get home. Even hands free is a distraction for a new driver. Stuff happens SO quickly at 60MPH. Be safe! We want you to post here for a long time to come.

I have a full truck license, (once owned a 1949 Albion Double deck Bus - search THAT on Google Images), and I occasionally drive my Mercedes E55 AMG these days, but rarely rapidly.
I am still waiting for my numismatic learner's permit, as I am still on a steep numismatic learning curve.

When I get my permit(27now)16 when I got it,It was actually given in school. You needed a 80 or above to pass. I passed and after that you got a certificate stating you completed the written part of the exam now we called the driving school and we had to do our 6 hours of driving.Once that was completed with were able to take our license test. Kind of backwards if you ask me though, but anyway drive safe and it will all become second nature to you, Also helps out a bunch if you just enjoy driving.

Put your phone in the trunk. I personally know of three family and friends severely injured from phoned drivers. Nothing is urgent enough to justify that.

You have to buy and sell three coins at a profit to convert that learners permit to an actual license to steal.

The excitement will wear off. I can 2nd riding with idiots, inexperienced drivers, and night time driving is more risky as well, as is deer season. Cars are a big killer of young folk. Start saving or working for a car, quality, and crash rating are good things. I've been driving for years and haven't had an idiot come out of nowhere and try to take me out but know plenty of others who have. Still, joyriding is fun too, done that plenty, enjoy and respect speed. I drove the gfriends new turbo BMW 8 speed with three different sport modes and it's insane, I would never .. had it up to 90mph easy the first time she let me drive it, I wouldn't let anyone pass me (A mustang tried), and I hope she doesn't let me drive it again, this is why I own and drive a camry with a 4 cylinder and haven't had a speeding ticket in 15 years, oh .. that's another thing, do not get tickets, it's an insurance thing you don't want to deal with.

Congratulations. I agree with all who have posted to be careful and the best advice from @moxking, leave your phone off. Too many people have been injured and killed by driving while on their phone.

Congratulations CoinCollector2012! Way to go man, that's awesome.
Excitement is a good thing, particularly when it comes in the wake of accomplishment. And as jbuck noted, it is indeed an important milestone.
No doubt when I was 15 and 16 I would have chafed under North Carolina's driving restrictions. At the same time, insurance, medical, and safety experts consider NC's graduated driving privileges to be the best in the nation, in part because the law is based on scientific evidence regarding brain development, acquisition (learning) of complex behavioral skills, and actuarial statistics.
Enjoy your increased independence!

Thanks for the advice everyone! KenKat, I usually drive my dad's Ford Taurus, but I got to drive my mom's Acura for the first time a few days ago. I learned to drive in my dad's car, so I'll stick to driving that one for now.
