Hey, all!

Just got back from a vacation trip to the nation's capital -- the first time my family has been there since 2012. While there, we had the chance to check out the (relatively?) new "Gallery of Numismatics" exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and well as do a little shopping at the U.S. Mint office near our hotel (I picked up a 2016 1 oz. Proof Gold Buffalo and a 2016 "100th Anniversary of the National Park Service Commemorative Coin Program" set.

Did somebody say they wanted to see pictures? Heck, yeah! And yes, that is my son in the first picture...

Cool stuff. Makes me want to go now, and I only live 90 minutes from D.C.

Thanks for the photos.

I just finished the book on the 1804 dollars. There is only one obverse die for the class I, II, III. The reverse die for the class I is the same die used on the 1801, 1802 and 1803 proofs. The reverse die for the class II and III is different from class I reverse. The type II shown by the mint is the only known type II. The only distinction between class II and class III is that class II has a plain edge and class III has a letter edge.

Perhaps a silly question, but why are coins on the second photo arranged in that way? Any specific reason?

I'm not sure, but if it helps, here is the text that accompanied the display:

Ok, I see now; there are four thematic groups. The arrangement is just a question of desinging the exhibition :) Thank you.
