Hi...

I have recently found two 10 cent coins (one from 1969 and one from 1979) which have little (on the 1969 coin) to no (on the 1979 coin) ridges.... I was wondering if this is just normal or if it is something different.

Pictures not included as resolution is too blurry to distinguish anything from the photos....

Sincerely,

The Masked Coin

Being that old, they are most likely just very worn coins.

They wear off over the years. Perfectly normal.

I also have one from 1981. completely smooth around the edge and the lip of the coin protrudes more than usual on both sides of the coin.

If the coin otherwise looks very worn and heavily circulated, then yes - it's just circulation damage.

If the coin otherwise looks mint-fresh and nearly uncirculated, then it might be some kind of mint error. A "wrong collar" error is unlikely, as there aren't any ten-cent-sized coins with a plain collar, and a coin struck with the collar die completely missing is called a "broadstrike" - as the name implies, a broadstuck coin is also unmilled but has a very wide rim, and is usually off-centre as well.

Could be a Dryer Coin, but pictures of both obverse, reverse, and edge are needed to make a determination.
