Hi there.

I recently inherited some coins, not a lot of value, but a lot of interest. It made me go and get my tin of collectable $1, 50c and 20c pieces. I've been doing heaps of Internet reading about stuff and found I have a couple of error coins. Cool.

I'm starting to look at storing them properly (and maybe buying a safe?)
I also know somewhere hidden in a box as yet unpacked from moving 4 years ago, I have a jar of pennies and ha-pennies that my MIL had stashed under her kitchen sink.

Anyway, I'm having fun learning stuff and including my son in the excitement. He now has an almost complete set of circulated $1 commemoratives. Only missing 1. I took him with me to the coin store to have the estate coins valued, the lovely guy there let him fossick through the world coin box, gave him a little magnifying glass and gave him 13 free when he said he liked them. It has absolutely sparked his interest. (He is 6)

So Hi. I look forward to learning more and getting to know you all (well, all might be a bit ambitious)

Hi Barefoot, to CCF! from one Aussie to another.

Just a quick word of advice, get the jar of your MIL's old coins out and check them as they may be sitting in the jar and corroding. Some nice old coins may be getting ruined.

Barefoot!

I love your nic--I went barefoot almost all the time as an adolescent in San Diego, California. When I moved to the east coast of the U.S., other young adults thought I was strange because I avoided wearing shoes whenever possible. ;^)

I also love how you are involving your son in the hobby. What a great father-son activity. :O)

And the coin store you visited for the appraisal sounds awesome! The owner exhibits the generosity and encouragement of young collectors that exemplifies the best of the numismatic community.

I look forward to your contributions.

All the Best,

Mark

P.S. I also learned a new word: fossick. I'm in word geek heaven.
