Anyone care to give this note a grade? Seems to be some issues.

VF

Hard folds and what looks like glue residue /staining on the reverse would not let this note anywhere near AU.

PMG hosed the grading on that one.

Even a blind grader would feel those creases and never give AU55

Never going to grade AU-55 from BCS IMO, VF-25 at best.

I'm not a banknote collector. What's the value range on this from VF25 to AU?

This surprised me at first based on overall appearance, but remember that, under PMG standards, XF notes typically have 3 evident folds while AU 50-58 notes can vary from nearly insignificant bends to 2 folds. If this note was simply folded in thirds and left in a dirty wallet for some time, the technical grade here (lacking PPQ designation) could be closer than you think.

Do IBNS standards no longer apply? I'm no grader, but certainly seems as if XF is even a bit much, but the dirt and smudging drop it to VF, in my opinion. Do we have dueling standards to consider, between IBNS and TPG services? Not just the number rankings, but the basic definitions of grade seem to be of concern.

ABOUT UNCIRCULATED (AU): A virtually perfect note, with some minor handling. May show very slight evidence of
bank counting folds at a corner or one light fold through the center, but not both. An AU note can not be creased, a
crease being a hard fold which has usually "broken" the surface of the note. Paper is clean and bright with original
sheen. Corners are not rounded.

EXTREMELY FINE (EF/XF): A very attractive note, with light handling. May have a maximum of three light folds or
one strong crease. Paper is clean and bright with original sheen. Corners may show only the slightest evidence of
rounding. There may also be the slightest sign of wear where a fold meets the edge.

VERY FINE (VF): An attractive note, but with more evidence of handling and wear. May have several folds both
vertically and horizontally. Paper may have minimal dirt, or possible colour smudging. Paper itself is still relatively
crisp and floppy. There are no tears into the border area, although the edges do show slight wear. Corners also show
wear but not full rounding.

Needless to say, I did not opt to purchase this note, but found a nice AU graded by CCCS that I jumped on.

This is the CCCS-graded AU50 I selected. Cost me less, too.

I agree that there are clear differences between CCCS and TPG standards.

I have no dog in this race - just pointing out the obvious.

I thought that there were grading "standards"? With that much variability it is so far from a standard it is not useful. @paxbrit, you did as you should, buy the note not the holder.

I don't think any of us have a dog in the race. I did just now check the PMG Grading Standards, AU55 can have one vertical crease, AU50 the same and up to three corner folds through the design, and XF in two grades would cover the two vertical creases. Dirt and such brings it down to the VF level.

So I'm thinking the PMG standards are pretty much identical to IBNS, except for 'clarification' about achieving a number within a grade level.

Maybe I'm reading the PMG standards in an inflexible manner.
