US Mint - 2016 coin features edge lettering to mark 30th anniversary of the coin's production. The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for the 2016 American Eagle Silver Proof Coin (product code 16EA) on September 16 at noon Eastern Time (ET). This year marks the 30th anniversary of the United States Mint's production of the American Eagle Silver Proof Coin. Introduced in 1986, the popular coin is the collector version of the United States Mint American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin. Its obverse (heads) features Adolph A. Weinman's full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. Its reverse (tails) features former United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver John Mercanti's heraldic eagle with shield, an olive branch in the right talon, and arrows in the left. "30th ANNIVERSARY" is incused on the coin's edge. The American Eagle Silver Proof Coins are struck using .999 fine silver blanks. The coin bears the "W" mint mark, indicating its production at the United States Mint at West Point. Each coin is encapsulated and packaged in a satin-lined blue velvet presentation case and accompanied by a 30th anniversary Certificate of Authenticity. The 2016 American Eagle Silver Proof Coin will be priced at $53.95. Orders will be accepted at https://www.usmint.gov/catalog and at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1-888-321-MINT. There is no household order limit, with customer demand determining the number of coins minted.

Looks like the edge lettering is visible in the capsule.
I wonder if it will be for the Reagan C&C as well.

But you will likely still have to remove the capsule from the box to view, I'd guess.
3 days and counting!
By the way, it seems unusual (to me) for the mint to release a product on a Friday.

It is odd. Who knows what voodoo logic they used this time.

What day are they typically released? Also, this will be my first is mint order. Are they usually shipped right away or is there a delay?

I would say mostly on Thursday...and shipping depends on the product BUT most products without subs are shipped pretty quick. This is a sub order product so I would guess that the subs would be shipped first and then the 1st day orders...

Tuesday. Same as new music. In my experience orders typically ship late in the day or early the next at worst. However, Foxwoods Man probably has a more accurate assessment.

Ah, good to know. I never buy movies. Cable or streaming only.

I know the mint should be and likely is much more careful in making proofs but what if we get an A & B position of the "30th Anniversary" like the bronze dollars or even more unlikely the "30th Anniversary" located someplace else along the edge other than the bottom.

For the 30th, the Obv. from this pattern would have rocked. It would be cool if the mint stepped out of the box a little more than they do.

From what I understand on how edge incusing works for proof coins, there is a 3-piece collar that applies the edge lettering at the time of pressing (i.e., all parts of the coin are stamped simultaneously), so there is no way to get A and B varieties (or rotations of the "30th Anniversary" around the edge) in proof coins. I'd wager that the UNC 30th ASEs that are coming out later in the year will be given the same treatment as the proofs. For circulating coins with edge-incused lettering such as the Presidential and Native American dollar coins, the process of incusing the edge occurs separately from pressing the obverse and reverse. IIRC, the planchets are incused first then fed randomly into the press, which is why you can get A and B varieties. Quote: I am looking forward to having one of these in hand. Yes indeed.

I agree with CK, the way the edge lettering is applied to proof coins prevents there being any A/B positions or text out of place. The proof Presidential dollars have all come out the same. I also feel they would do the same process for uncirculated ASE.
