I won this lovely coin in an ebay auction. It's a Constantine II (as Caesar) GLORIA EXERCITVS AE-3 from the Cyzicus mint.
I've been collecting ancient Roman coins for nearly twenty years and I don't recall seeing many fully silvered GLORIA EXERCITVS AE-3s.
I have owned a few fully silvered fourth century AD Roman bronzes, but not this type.
It's a beautiful coin, fully struck and centered with sharp details. The enlarged photos obviously magnify the tiny imperfections, but when held in my hand it is a sight to behold!
If others have silvered examples to share I'd love to see them!
The extant silvering aside, I'm impressed by the fine detail in the portrait. It's a wonderful testamnet to the skill with which a now anomynous artisan fashioned the die.
