Make that TWO 1979 pennies. I began collecting in 1972, and by 1979, Lincoln cents were so boring (I was going to say they were a dime a dozen, but I'd be wrong). By that time they were making almost 10 billion pennies a year, so so what. You get the BU P & D from circulation, stick 'em in your folder, and forget about them. Ho hum. (That's why I get bemused when I hear younger collectors getting excited about the "old" Memorial cents.) Anyway, I found these two pennies in change the other day. I'm struck by how uncirculated they are! Indeed, a seller would call them Choice BU. Sure, they must have been sitting in someone's folder ever since then, but who knows? Could it be that they had been sitting in a bank vault and they were just released to the light of day for the first time in their lives?

Yesterday my wife and I were going out for breakfast at a little cofffee shop before hitting a wool festival (she's big into knitting and collects yarn like I collect coins). Anyway, from time to time I like to spread coin cheer by throwing old coins in tip jars. So if there is a coin collector at this coffee shop, they got two BU '55s wheats, a 40-Kennedy and a couple of Mercury dimes. It would be fun to hear what they say when they find the stuff.

Those guys are pretty. Always amazes me when I come across similar examples in circulation, especially when it allows me to upgrade a cent in my album!

Very nice condition Lincoln's.
Some collectors put away rolls on UNC coins. I did, and have bought rolls that other collectors put away.
Could be some rolls just got dumped.

I too at one time had rolls of uncirc cents just sitting around. Finally just took them to a bank.

Same here, back in the 80s. Spent years saving them. Really stupid.

I always assume they've been in a penny jar somewhere since their first months out in the world and have finally been released when they finally took the jar in to a coinstar machine (or wrapped them themselves in rolls if they are the patient type!)
