I just got to thinking as someone else posed a question about 'what you plan on doing with your collection'.
My question, basically, is how long is storage of coins in a Dansco album practical? I know it all is based on environment, but in a normal environment such as in a packing box to my new house, in a closet, cupboard, safe, etc you name it. How long are they expected to last? Will they last me my lifetime or will I have to change the coins out and get a new book?
I assume there'll probably be a lot better of a way to display your collection in books in the future... To that, I don't know.

My older coins...heavily circulated mercurys, Barber halves, Indian Head cents etc. I will keep in my Dansco albums until I meet my maker and they get passed on to our son. The newer coinage and sets with proof coins I am moving to the CAPS albums a few at a time. I think my older sets will be fine in there another 25 - 30 years...if I live that long.

My oldest Dansco albums will be 32 years old this December. Still going strong. Think about books in general and how old they can be. You take care of them and they will last more than a lifetime.

I have several books that are well over 100 years old and still look great. So no worries there as long as they are stored carefully. As for the coins in the albums, I would think they would fair well in your Albums as long as the environment is right. You can still find 100 year old coins that looked like they were minted yesterday Its gotta be better than whatever stored these coins that long ago and they still look great.

The book will last forever if properly cared for. I would think the coins are at least as protected from the elements as in flip if not more. Some depends on where you live. I am in southern California. Humidity is pretty low here most of the time, especially since it hardly ever rains. I'd expect someone in Florida to have more issues with that. If you are really worried about the elements affecting the coins in your album then put it in a zip lock bag to create an additional barrier.

Simply put, they will protect your coins longer than most of us will live.

Depends where and how you store them. My Dansco's are all stored in my safe and have been fine for years. If you live in a high humidity area, make sure to use absorbent packs. In most other conditions you should be fine ;-)

Some of the Dansco albums made for overseas are older than 50 years old (!). So far they seem to hold their age very well.

I'm just wondering about the PVC resistant plastic that they use too. How long is that to last? I guess I'd be worried about it aging and turning yellow.
I've seen some coins that have been in covered Whitman Albums from 1961 or something that have had some interesting problems arise on them.
Book toning isn't much of a concern for me but the yellowing and aging, yes.

As far as I know, Dansco has never used PVC. The slides are acetate and easily replaced if they become scratched or discoloured.

I've had coins in Albums for well over 60 years now. Some are Dansco, some are Whitman and a few others too. Never had a problem with any coins in any of the Albums. All are in Zip Lock Plastic bags though.

I've got proof coins that have been sitting in Dansco albums for over 20 years, they still look as great as the day I broke open the OGP. The albums themselves have aged very well. I think Danscos are fine for long-term coin storage as long as the albums and coins are stored and handled properly. The albums still have the original clear slides and they have not been a problem. My Danscos have been kept in a pretty standard home environment, they haven't been kept in bags or anything. I think as long as you keep them in a coin-friendly environment you should be OK.
As far as maintaining the albums themselves, it's kind of like hardcover books - take good care of them and they'll be fine.
