Sharp thick rims, raised, sandblast surface... I need input. I made an old thread that is now uneditable so I needed to make a new one.

The rims are nowhere near square enough for a matte proof IMO. The coin looks AU+ so rounded rims wouldn't be possible.

GREAT Lincoln!
Check the outer rim. Outer edges should be squared off as well.
Do an internet search for "1909 VDB matte proof diagnostics" - some great info out there.

Not a matte proof, many 1909's have nice, square rims and frosty fields since the hubs and dies were fresh.

Nada. Looks like an AU-58 business strike

Definitely not a proof. A handsome coin, nonetheless. If you find MPLs exciting, Kevin Flynn's Lincoln Cent Matte Proofs is a book worth owning. @BadThad.. you wouldn't happen to have more pics of that fine cent, now, would you?

@BadThad.. I am a novice when it comes to matte proofs. I have learned much from studying photos and die markers. I have never actually seen one, however, so, there's that. Given that this example coin is raw, how did you figure out that it's a MPL?

It is NOT an MPL, it is a business strike example of square rims and frosted fields.

Ooooooh, that makes much more sense! I kept looking over it to figure out if it was the photos somehow or what.. My brain was glitching over it: Thad knows what a dang proof Lincoln is... but that's not a proof... but there is no way he wouldn't know it... but how could... like that.
