Don't fret about the title of your thread. If I had one of those I'd be showing off A Lot! I think you can edit the title yourself if you really want to do that. I first learned about the 1955 DDO when I was probably 10 or 11....anyway, it was mid to late 1960's. I bought a coin magazine and saw an ad for one. I was born in 1955 so it stuck in my mind. I hope I'm remembering correctly, but I think you could get one then for $50 or maybe $80. Minimum wage back then was around $1/hour or maybe a little less. I just remember thinking it was over a week's wages to buy one. So I made the effort to check all my cents in case one came my way. Never happened. Was the piggy bank in the Boston area?

Thedeathtouch, I zoomed into the area as much as I could with the phone camera that I have to use. It's the best I can do for now.

Thanks Buddy.
We are less than 2 hours away and less than 100 miles away from Boston. I live in southeastern Connecticut as does my step dad, near Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos.
That's still pretty expensive!
Also, it states that I can't edit topics in that forum after one day.

Okay - that fits. I was telling a friend at my local coin club about how I had hoped to find a 1955 DDO in my change back when I was a kid and he said it would never have happened. The reason, he said, was that they were all in Boston. He told me that back then a pack of cigarettes cost 24 cents. So to get people to buy Lucky Strikes from a vending machine for a quarter, they put a cent inside the cello wrapping on the pack of cigarettes. I guess it was the Cheerios Dollar of the day. I don't know the history of the discovery of that coin but now you've got me thinking .... need to check that out one day.

Nice coin AU50 to 53 in my opinion. Get the green stuff off the back with a professional conservation and you should be good to go!
Do not mess with it yourself unless you are absolutely 110% sure of what you are doing and what the results will be. There have been many nice coins absolutely ruined with good intentions!

Thanks Westernsky, and Buddy, a local coin dealer (local to me) said they were $.23 and that they gave $.02 back. How's that for Two Cents!

Or how many inadvertent smokers double Abe's created!? - if that makes sense.

Thanks coin lover. I don't think I'll ever let it out of my possession! Perhaps there'll be a roving grader at a coin show or something.

There are! At the Worlds Fair of Money you can get stuff slabbed. If you ever decide to go you should get in touch with them first and find out what's involved. I usually see dealers with stacks of new releases to be slabbed.

I wonder if they'll have a guy come to the yearly coin show in my area.
