The title asks the question. What's your go-to place to buy coins?
Also, are there places where someone might not think to look for coins, but you sometimes find them there?
Finally, if you happen to live in the Denver area, do you have a favorite shop? I've been trying to visit all of them just to get a feel for the dealers.

Coin shows are my primary source, but I also buy direct from the US Mint.

Depends more on what I'm looking for. High grade TPG for scarce and rare issues, usually Heritage first, Great Collections second. More common material, ebay. Followed by shows (there are only two shows within 200 miles of where I live), then individual dealers on-line.

I buy most of my coins, in no particular order, at the Taganka coin "market", the Hobby City mall off Cherkizovskaya, the Hobby Market mall at Krasnobogatyrskaya street, and the Izmaylovo Vernisage flea market. That's in Moscow. In other cities, I usually just look for antique shops.
Sometimes, I find people on the street selling all sorts of assorted items as if it was a market stall. It's usually food, flowers, or clothes, but sometimes there is some quite nice stuff - even coins; once in a while, even very nice coins (because the people selling like that rarely know what they're selling). One time in Kaliningrad, I've walked from such a one-guy market with a Manchurian aluminium coin I bought for less than half a dollar. (Yesterday, at Hobby City, I got lucky enough to again find a Manchurian aluminium coin - a much less common one at that - for less than half a dollar.)
Never been anywhere within a few thousand miles of Denver, sorry.

I took a tour of the mint in Denver in the late 1980s. I took a tour of the mint in Philadelphia in the early 1990s. I've not toured any other US mint facilities.
Both were cranking out cents by the millions.

I buy primarily from ebay and Heritage, a well as the occasional odd bit at my LCS and local shows.

For ASE's, I search the mints or ebay to see who has the best deal For collector coins, it is ebay or CCF. Don't have time to leave my businesses and go to coins shows. There are not any that are close to me. One day, I hope to go to one.

For general type coins or to fill holes in my series collections, I prefer local shops (presuming I have time to go). For commemoratives, I shop primarily on ebay, select dealers I've "met" through ebay, or dealers I've seen recommended in this forum. The selection is better online and there are deals to be found if you're patient. There are only a couple of shows per year close enough that I'm willing to drive to.

All of the choices mentioned are very good, but the connections that you have with other collectors can make a huge difference. So many high end coins never see the light of auctions, etc., and are bought and sold in a gentleman's/ladies home, with maybe a brandy or two to go along with the fellowship that binds the deal with a simple handshake.

Quote: Never been anywhere within a few thousand miles of Denver, sorry. I have, but I don't know a coin shop in Denver from first hand experience. In my more or less daily life, I have a range of coin shops in a few countries which I frequently visit. Other than that, I usually look for local initiatives (see my 'coin shopping around the world' thread) in case I get numismatic cravings when on tour. I actually have learned to avoid the internet shops like ebay, unless it's for direct orders with a national mint or so (and then still... a lot can go wrong).

I have bought hundreds of numismatic items on ebay with only one return (counterfeit). Most local coin shops do not carry what I like.

Mostly coin shops. The rest have come from coin shows, auctions, flea markets, and antique malls.
