Another one for the type set...this one is in a lot better shape than the last one.I never have been fond of coppers, but I think I'm warming up to them.
Tell Me what you think about it.Also,is there a site where a guy could look up more about large and Half Cents?

Not exactly my deal but I have a couple. This one looks like it's had some "wiping off" but otherwise EF40-ish.

I'd wager an AU-53/55 net AU-50 due to the scratch above Liberty's head and the strikethough(?) below cent. C-1 variety.

First impression, the coin has a little bit of a shiny look.

But that could be lighting and that it is in a 2X2.

There are a couple spots .. bot not bad.

I think the obverse is mid AU, reverse high XF.

Would like to see this coin after acetone/verdicare treatment.

Depending on how it looks in hand XF 45 to AU 53

AU50 but the surfaces bother me. my first thought was that it was cleaned and colored. the blotchy surfaces dont seem natural. lets see if some of the old copper experts chime in with their thoughts
Rest in Peace

It's certainly AU, and I'd be at them mid-level of 53. I think this coin has most certainly been cleaned at some point in time because of the blotchy coloration. Still, not a bad example and certainly worth inclusion in a type set.

AU-53, perhaps old cleaning, but very decent and probably market-acceptable.

Here is a couple of pictures straight from the camera, well, resized and cropped.
The blotchy look on the reverse is due to a stain/substance(?)on the coin.So I gave it a bath in first water (RO/DI),then in acetone.About ten minutes each.I didn't touch the reverse, but I admit that I tried poking that black spot below his chin with a tooth pick.
I'm going have to look into getting some of this Verdicare.I've read so much about it.Maybe I can get the LCS to pick some up.?
Anyway,My pocketbook and I are happy to have it.

It sure looks like a strike-through,in hand,on the reverse. Now how did You come up with a "C-1 variety"?Is there an on line source,or do I need to be on the look out for some book? I'm lacking a few more sense...ah..cents.I would like too learn a little more.

Only one die pair for this date, C-1. If you look to the right of the 1, you can see the base of another 1 poking of if the denticles.
