A friend clipped this from a newspaper in 1960 talking about the 1960 Small date cents.

Thought the members here might enjoy seeing this and talking about this variety then versus now.

Great article!

This was the height of the coin collecting mania of the mid-20th c., when regular folks all across the country were saving up uncirculated rolls of coins like crazy, and there was huge demand for rolls / singles of coins like the 1950-D Jefferson nickel based solely on low mintage numbers.

They couldn't have known then that $8 face of silver 1960 coins would be worth more now than a small date cent.

In the days of no internet, information was a lot slower to be spread to the masses. No ebay meant a person could not get online and see current spending trends to know if something that was thought rare was truly rare or not.

Since its inception, ebay especially has changed value perception and caused major price adjustments on collectables since people now have a dynamic resource to see how truly rare a an object is.
