Just found this as I was going through my change. Anything special with this quarter or just been around the block?

The coin has seen significant circulation wear but it has also seen significant artificial wear on the reverse. The copper core is exposed at the edge, something that would never happen through normal circulation but can happen if the rim is removed from grinding/sanding.

It looks like it spent a lot of time in a slot machine. Does the edge show copper?

To me the reverse is sanded down, altered. I thought at first there was a reverse rim, then realized there isn't and the line I was thinking was a rim is actually the copper planchet showing on the rim area. So I'm seeing an altered coin. Not an error.

When I see coins like this, I try to imaged what or why caused this type of damage. I believe it is damaged, and could be like posted ..sanded. As to why ... I got nothing ..

Some think: Quote: "I can alter a coin to make it look like it is an error and make a bunch of money on it. So they experiment and alter a coin and realize, that doesn't look anything like an error. So what will I do it now? Spend it!"
