I have an 1811 silver four shillings bath token. It hurts to say this but someone has drilled a little hole in it, I'm assuming for a necklace. Does this kill the value for this coin?

Yes, maybe worth 10% to 20% of list value now.

You can always get the hole filled in and repaired if you think it would look better. There are people that can do pretty good repair work on this stuff. You just have to factor in the cost of the repair and decide if it is worth it. However, it will result in a details grade of damaged/repaired. To me, "damaged/repaired hole" sounds a lot better than just "holed" on a TPG slab. A hole on a coin is not very eye appealing to me.

Melt value IMO, and maybe a small premium to a collector that likes the letter R.

I'll see your 1884 Viper, and raise you double... this is a painful one to see.

A different kind of hole, this one is even more painful... the other side was a crudely made love token

Holes, harsh cleaning, and severe corrosion are the worst.

Here's a holed token for sale on ebay. Hard to imagine but an example without hole for this token IS likely worth about 5 times as much. 351879029769

What a shame. It definitely kills the value of a coin to almost nothing. Who would want to pay a premium for that kind of a coin? No serious buyer will. They would rather have a poorer looking undamaged coin than that one.
