Hey, here's the Morgan dollar that I alluded to earlier on the forum, purchased for $33 along with other type coins of this year. I cracked it out of its holder and took pictures to highlight its problems. Are there enough problems to merit an AU or is it ms? Also, the back had interesting die cracks. Anyone know the VAM? Some pictures enhanced to show more clearly the marks

I see no wear, but all the dings and scratches put this one at MS-61 for me.
Rest in Peace

Technically speaking, dings and bag marks do not reduce an uncirculated coin to a circulated grade.

Bad rim dings, large scratches, cleaning, graffiti, and other major problems might reduce a coin to UNC. Details.

This poor girl has been beat enough that it really doesn't matter if this is an AU 58 or a MS 61 as far as the value is concerned. $30 is a generous price for it.

I'm really not trying to knock your coin nor offend your purchase. That's just what I see.

Moxking, I acknowledge how badly this coin has been beatten, but I'm just curious how this would grade. Actually, $33 was the total price which includes this coin, a barber half, a Barber quarter, Barber dime and the two minor coins. Effectively, given every other coin is worth spot, I only paid $23 for this coin.
Rest in Peace

I'm seeing a bit more rub on the center of the Eagles breast and at 5:00 behind ear on obverse than I'd like to see on an uncirculated example, so I'd be at AU-58.

NOT because of the bag marks but because of the slight indication of circulation.

By the way, all that for $33 is a steal!
Rest in Peace

I too think .. it could be either AU 58 ..or MS 61 .. both being worth about the same.

Buying all those coins for $33 .. is a very good deal

Could be anywhere between 58 and 62. Looks dipped in some of the pics, but perhaps not.
