I have no idea how this could happen with no damage to the obverse! I'm thinking a fake? But I would love your thoughts on this coin! Thanks for the advice!

Looks like glue from when Two Cents were stuck together.

An acetone soak will remove it, if that's what it is.

It appears to be "Glue" with the impression of the coin that was stuck to this coin on it.

It's not glue,The last picture you can see that one is raised over the other. I tried rubbing a small portion off with a tooth pick and it's definitely stamped!

It is glue. If it were struck onto the coin, why are the devices not altered on the reverse? If it were doubled struck, the opposite side would also be affected, its not.

I thank you all for the info,I retried the toothpick with much more force and it started peeling off. Darn it! But why is glue used on coins?

If this had been a double stamp, the words from both impressions would be normally oriented left to right. But the one rotated image has lettering that is backwards. The backwards lettering means the the one, incomplete image is an impression. As Buddy suggested, it does look like glue. And some glues are tough enough a toothpick won't move it.

As you said, the one is over the top of the other - which is exactly what glue would do. Try the acetone and let us know what happens.

Sometimes it is glue to a piece of paper to hold it in place. Sometimes people have too much time on their hands.

Oh by the way what is the best way to show a rotated die? I found a 73' last week the same as another user, but I think I found another and was wondering if I video it and post a link to the video in a thread. IS that ok?

That glue thing can look pretty convincing to the untrained eye When I first joined this forum I posted a Canadian quarter that I had for years and the folks on here pointed out it was epoxy glue and they were right Now everything goes under a microscope. BIG to this group

Put it in a 2x2 and draw 4 lines on each side to show. You could do a vid also

A 2x2 with a staple works pretty good, or you could just put a mirror behind it.

Here is one way a fellow member posted his images.

On the reverse, the coin should look 180 degrees upside down. Medal alignment coins (like Canada's coins will be same on both sides without a rotation on their coins)

How long did it take to stand that nickel up smack dab even in front of the mirror? I'm envisioning 10 minutes of total frustration.
