CoinWorld - A huge gold ingot recovered from a famous shipwreck topped Heritage's Platinum Night auction on Jan. 5 at the Florida United Numismatists show in Fort Lauderdale.
The 327.97-ounce gold ingot emerged from the wreck of the SS Central America nearly 30 years ago and was produced during the California Gold Rush by Justh & Hunter, a company that was little-known until 86 of its gold bars were discovered on the Central America.

You could use it as a door stop and no one would ever think of taking it! At the very least, it will make your safe a bit harder to move.

Too bad most of the investors in the company got skunked when the head of the company took off with all the money. Every time I see one of these I can't help but think of the Dwight Manley theft of those bars. For those who don't know about this, Manley was one of the investors and he got a large number of the recovered bars. He had them stored in his garage. He was having some work done on his home and the contractors came in and out through the garage. Well one day one of the workmen just decided to help himself to several of the bars. They were eventually recovered though.
