I hope that this news gets around-among the other purveyors of fakes.

We need some enforcement agency in Canada to step up to the plate like this, sadly it's unlikely to happen until the RCM or BOC are directly affected. Maybe the recent appearance of $X for $X counterfeits will give them some motivation.

As long as Canadian dealers sell counterfeits in their stores! As long as the RCNA does absolutely nothing about the issue! As long as ignorance is tolerated as a defense even when the facts dictate other wise. As long as the Canadian collector community accepts the above...,...NOTHING WILL CHANGE!

The no-no site is also back on the Office of the US Trade Representative blacklist. I'm not sure why it was ever off the list - off since 2012 and now back on. There was a front page story on CBS a couple days ago. Here is the actual list: https://ustr.gov/sites/default/file...-Markets.pdf

The CBSA and RCMP both have authority under Canadian Law to stop the importation and distribution of counterfeit coins and commercial goods and choose to do very little about it. The CBSA crew would sooner tear apart a legitimate returning Canadian business person at the border than inspect packages imported from Ali Baba , just sayin.....

But the RCM has to ask for enforcement to start the procedures just like any private business that has a product faked, until they do the CBSA and RCMP will not act. All business has to prove their products are faked before the government agencies act, the 60 minutes show on New Balance said they spend yearly about 5% of gross sales on tis issue, the RCM doesn't even seem to care about obvious fakes.

There are ALREADY provisions to stop the importation of Counterfeit Coins in the CUSTOMS act ..... sure don't need the say so of the Royal Canadian Mint . It is not just Canada counterfeit coins that are being imported. We see more Morgan's And Chinese Dollars than we do Canadian at our Market. As an aside Mike Marshall has done one heck of a job on trying to stop this nonsense. But it sure can't be too much fun playing Whack- A- Mole all by yourself. All of us involved in numismatics in Canada can do one heck of a lot more to further help end this scourge .

I have had many conversations with the RCM reps and certain depts. pertaining to tis issue, they just don't seem to care, I am just saying the way the system works is the harmed party has to prove the fakes, then only they can ask for enforcement, not backwards where the customers are pleading for help, if there are say fake Rolex products a customer can't ask the government agencies for enforcement procedures to occur.

No fine mentioned?! He made 12K, gets 10 months of free room and board, and then is free to go (well.."supervised" ). If we had good old "breaking rocks in the hot sun" crime would not be as rampant. Oh well - at least it is something.

It might be fun (for me!) to dissect the crime. He sold $12k worth. If lucky maybe he got $10 a coin at a pawn shop? That's 1200 coins to pawn shops in 5 or 6 towns. If each town has 10 pawn shops he managed to offload about 20 coins in each. 1200 were seized at his house. So he bought around 2400 at $2 each. So he made $7200 and then got probably 5 months in jail actual time. Nice work if you can get it.
