I am kind of new, but not really. A just about three years ago I registered here and posted that I was interested in starting to collect coins and got some advice since I didn't know where to start. I only posted three threads.

As a recap, my dad and I collected coins when I was a child and I really enjoyed it (just looking at the coins and thinking of where in history they were used) but we sold my collection and most of his a long time ago when my uncle was closing up his coin shop and the price of silver was high. My dad passed away a few years ago and I have nostalgia for that collecting he and I did. I found out from my uncle that my dad didn't sell all his coins and I started thinking about starting a collection again. This time, as an adult with a better understanding (maybe, lol... I admit it, I still really just like looking at coins but now I can appreciate the history and minting).

Well anyway, it's official today, I started! I told my boyfriend about my idea to start collecting coins again before Christmas. At that point I couldn't decide between Peace dollars and Walking Liberty half dollars. I love the look of the Walking Liberty coins, but my research told me that it might be easiest to make a first, complete, collection of the Peace dollars. I'd been going to shops and looking, but not buying.

He got me two Peace dollars for Christmas, so it's decided! The two starter coins are a 1921-P AU58 and a 1928-P XF dollar. He's braver than I am about buying coins. But he got them from a reputable coin shop (didn't buy them online or anything like that).

So now I've started and should be posting here more often.

I've decided the best way for me to collect is to treat myself to a coin a month to start. I know there are different ways to collect them, but I am looking at collecting one of each year from each mint (I'll probably collect Fine to AU since that's in my budget).

Again. It sounds like you have already chosen a fun and rewarding path with the Peace dollars. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you have them, or voice your opinion, because we have a lot of folks on this forum who have and do collect Peace dollars.

Here they are! The start of my collection. I need to figure out what to get next. Do I continue in order with 1922, continue with whatever else I can find first, etc. The problem is, the coin shops around here have everything so it's not a matter of the hunt and more a matter of what I want to buy.

Almost-New-Member-But-New-To-Collecting-As-Of-Today

My boyfriend also got me a binder to put them in and I've made little place fillers for the missing coins (and put these in order of where they will go when the collection is complete). After I get all the Peace dollars, I am hoping to start on Walking Liberty half dollars. It's a lot to learn and a lot to know, so I think it's best as someone newish to collecting (not a kid anymore relying on expertise of my dad) that it's best to stick with one type of coin and make sure I know a lot about it before moving on to something else.
