The gift cards are an excellent idea. Last year I won a $100 gift card from a contest Vcoins had.

Something like a total $30 million worth of ancient coins are available on the Vcoins website at any one time. There a large number of ancient coin dealers from all over the World, that are in competition with each other, all to be found in a one stop website.
As a result, a collector of ancient coins can get a reasonable idea of the market value of an ancient coin that may be similar to one he may be considering, or to buy from one of those dealers.

Yes, I agree that vcoins is a good place to look. Their medieval European inventory used to be a little thin, but it has improved dramatically over the past few years as additional vendors have joined.

One problem with vcoins is that a lot of coin dealers that carry medieval coins (and ancients, too) are in Europe. I don't see any way to filter out non-US dealers when doing a search. Another problem is that most listed coins are not certified, so I'm hesitant to get anything very expensive over there.

Yes @pepactonius, I agree that it is good to be cautious and start a relationship with an overseas dealer slowly. Also, I know that you prefer otherwise, but in may experience, the vast majority of this material is not slabbed.

The biggest problem of importing coins is running afoul of customs regulations -- import duties, restrictions on dug-up antiquities, etc. That's why I much prefer getting stuff from US sellers. On occasions I have ordered from overseas, for example: adapters from Rafcamera (Minsk? or Moscow?) available nowhere else, or Jinfinance (a Chinese seller with a good reputation over at photomacrography.net).
