Hi I found this 2016 D Penny with the common small die crack on the left top of the shield. However I do not know what caused the lines shooting out from the left side of the shield just above the banner. They are not incuse. All help appreciated.
It is Feeder Finger Damage. It is probably just happening very recently. That is why it is so minor. The reason I concluded that is that the area is in a small pattern and in a direction for this to commonly happen.
Thanks experts for the input. I would have never thought about Feeder Finger Damage. That's why I love this forum. Halo1st I'm definitely going to explore the possible MD on the ONE.
They are die gouges of some sort but they can't be Feeder Finger Damage. The newer Schuler horizontal presses use a gravity feed tube(as seen below) for the planchets, not feeder fingers like a traditional vertical press.
Biokemist6, More food for thought. Schuler WP-21 horizontal coining press.

The centrifuge loads the magazine. Pause about 48sec in. You can see the magazine is loaded, but is also offset to the right of the dies alignment as it also appears in the image of the Schuler MRH-150.
Does not appear the planchets free fall directly into the dies path, but are fed into position from that point. Everything happens so fast its hard for me to grasp the whole picture or process for feeding into the striking chamber or strike position. Would think something has to stop / position the planchet in alignment for the upcoming strike. Thanks, Doug.
