Hello,

Could someone please confirm if you agree that the coin below would be graded as F (12)? To me the details of the eagle's eyes makes this coin a F compared to VG and the details of the feather on the wing aren't as visible on the F as shown in the VF.

I have attached the picture of the coin and pictures of the grading scale from VG to VF.

I'm ok with Fine, but details because of the grafitti.

What a shame people put initials on coins..

It is a F-12 but now with details.

Fine, details, graffiti.

Details coins do not have numerical grade assignments.

Agree F-12, just barely, and definitely a details coin.

with F-12 Details, which is too bad because it seems like a nice strike.

Thank you all for the replies and confirming the grade. Being a newbie I am still learning about grading coins and boy do I have a looooonnng way to go.

If I were to sell this coin in the future, how much would the initial devalue the coin compared to one of the same grade without it. Would it be around 30% below market value?

The discount would be a lot more than that. That "M" kills the coin because it is on the obverse in a focal point and it is large relative to the size of the piece. You are looking at a major discount when you will be able to sell it at all.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's best you learn now before you make additional mistakes. Problem coins are seldom good buys unless they are super cheap, or they are super rare and most collectors can't get anything much better.
