this is my second day here in the coin community. I'm enjoying everyones input. I have a 1804 with an error on the top. Is this a Cud error? How would you grade this coin?

Fantastic find - Cuds are hard to come by and usually carry a decent premium - depending on the coin itself and its condition.

Looks like a possible match to:

The reverse seems in better condition. Since I am so new to this how would you grade this coin? I think its ok considering it's 213 years old.

Looks like C-9 somewhere around die stage VI or VII.

I agree with Conder101 it appears to be a Cohen C-9 variety, the Cud represents a particular die state of that variety, broken down even further by the "Manley Die State"
This one looks to be a Manley 4.5/5.0 state out of 6 die states. Rarity is 2 (pretty common) and most examples are found VF or lower grades.

Grade looks to be around VG-10.

Color is unnatural in these photos. I expect it has much darker brown tone in-hand?

Yes the color is a dark brown. I'm still figuring out how to take the best pics.
