That seems like a really bargain buy !
What features gives it the details grade ?

The slab said surface hairlines but there aren't any...it was probably old cleaning, especially on the reverse...

Wow, you can't believe that a variety on a coin can be that expensive... Very nice, I have a complete set of these and am missing the 'narrow' date 1880....but, do I need one..?

Also, wanted to say, the reason they gave it a 'details' grade I would think, is the couple of heavy scratches on the obverse.

AU is a great coin in an 1880 oval O. Quite difficult over VF.

It is a difficult one...I remember a few years back one sneaking on ebay in ICCS MS60 and I think it was immediately scooped up for $3000.

I saw that one... I refrained from bidding, because I am rather attached to my ex-Remick 1880 Oval 0....

I posted the pic of mine (PCGS MS64RB) in another thread recently. It was owned for decades by Prof. Wayne Palmer. It was also part of the Canadiana Collection, before I bought it.
PCGS lists two 65's and one 64 in mint state. One of the 65's does not exist IMO. It was a resubmission. Likewise I think the MS60 in an ICCS holder was resubmitted to ICCS. I think there are only 3, perhaps 4, in mint state. Bob's 65, my 64, the ICCS 60, and maybe one more 60. I haven't seen an ICCS pop report in a few years, but I believe the one they used to carry in 64 is now Bob's PCGS65.
There are a couple of specimens out there, which is where I think the die came from.
Tough, tough coin above VF30.

Shame about the details, but still a lovely thing to look at.
