Hello again everyone! So a friend of mine has this piece and it has got me confused. I've seen plenty of examples of this series but nothing like this. The Un Sol on the reverse is completely missing, and not as in its been filed off, it just looks like it wasnt struck. I've never seen one with the denomination that wasn't there before. Does anyone know what this could be and why the legend is missing? Thanks for the help! *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I recommend moving this thread to the Canadian section, we have some very knowledgeable token people that can give you all the information you need. I am by no means an expert but this coin's devices look very different from other examples I've seen. I don't want to use the "c" word until someone with more experience chimes in.

Ok will do. I was thinking of the "c" word as well when I saw the photo.

I had a similar problem with a Canada token I didn't readily find in my books. Then I learned about a book of Canadian Tokens I was not aware of. Thumbing the pages- there it was! All the data.

Albert, what's the name of the book? I'll see if I can track down a copy.

For me, it looks like a post strike alteration.
I'm sorry if my English isn't perfect... I'm learning a little more every day.

Not in Charlton's Tokens. Maybe some personal mods a long time ago

these were often struck on poor quality planchets & many have weak strike characteristics.
clearer pictures of yours would help, but from what I can see it looks corrosion/environmental damage.

One shamrock, eighteen leaves, looks like LC28 except for the missing denomination.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning... -from PCGS website

DBM's attribution is spot on. This is identified by Charlton as LC-28. Wade's comments are also astute and accurate. The workmanship of many within this series is somewhat suspect. Quality control seemed not much of an issue. Weight Tolerances were liberal. Broken legends are rampant (either broken devices or clogged dies). Coupled with being of a lower grade and having environmental damage (corrosion), all is typical of this being a genuine token, howbeit a common variety. Remnants of the UN SOU is detectable. Given the condition of the token, it is uncertain whether the weakness of the denomination is the result of being weakly struck, or from a broken or clogged die. doug

Thank you everyone so much for the info. And thanks to the mod who moved it. It's really appteciated!
These are the best photos I have right now so unfortunately I can't get clearer photos. The coin is in someone else's possession. But I will pass on the info to him, he'll be pleased to hear the attribution.
Thanks again coin community!
