I picked this up today on the cheap but I thought it was graded a bit um.... optimistically. I would appreciate people's opinions on grade or any other thoughts. At any rate it will fill a hole so I'm happy with the purchase.

I like to look at the coins and then decide on the grade that I think. Then I wait until BadThad replies to see how much I was off. I tend to think of it as a game. I usually come within a couple of points from his. I have never post what I think though. Just don't that much about it. It is rather difficult to find that date and mintmark though. I have found only two in the 10,629 wheat cents found.

G-06 and a most attractive example. I don't think there is a G-08. to the CCF!

Wouldn't that be VG8?

Seller had it listed as VG8. I was thinking G6. Looks like everyone was in the right ballpark. Much thanks to all for the input.

I agree on G-6. It's not VG-8 because it does not meet this criterion: "Wheat shows some details and about half of the lines at the top" (Bressett & Bowers, 2006, p. 96). ~ Mark ReferenceBressett, K. E. & Bowers, Q. D. (2006). The official American Numismatic Association grading standards for United States coins (6th Ed.). Atlanta, GA: Whitman Publishing. [ISBN-13: 978-0794819934]

I have learned a ton about grading in this forum, although I still consider myself an amateur to be sure. I'm getting to know Lincoln Wheat Cents pretty well, but show me a Capped Bust Dime and I'm clueless! ~ Mark

I think there's enough wheat lines to pull a VG-8
