Last one I posted with a similar luster had mixed opinions. Do the surfaces on this one look original?

This one does not look natural to me either. The surfaces do not look naturally untoned.

The 1858-O is the better mintmark and more desirable based on the production source. This one has slightly higher eye appeal.

Both coins are market acceptable and I wouldn't be surprised to see them in problem-free PCGS holders. However they do not look like naturally untoned coins to me.

I think both have been cleaned, but they have done a fairly good job with the cleaning. There are a lot of botched cleanings out there as you may have already seen.

I like the look of these coins, but others will disagree. Go with what you like. Hope that helps.

Agree VF-35, not quite enough meat for EF. Very attractive and original.

The gray color in the fields is what you want to see on a circulated piece of 19th century silver. The lighter areas on the devices are a distraction and indicate less than optimal storage. I agree with the VF-35 grade, and I would say the coin is essentially original with the lighter areas on Ms. Liberty and the eagle

The coin is original. I also do not think it is XF. XF LS coinage should have no loss of detail of wing feathers nor should the blouse top be flat. I have it at VF-35 as well. You should buy it at between VF and XF money, not strong XF money.

I'm no expert on this series, but $100 seems reasonable based on prices paid for similar 1858 LSHDs on eBay, and the NumisMedia Fair Market Value, which is $85 for VF-20, and $156 for EF-40.
