It seems to me that, compared to other US Mint offerings, the Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set 2016 (Item Number: 16RB) price of $49.95 is better than average for the Mint.

My reasoning is that the American Eagle 2016 One Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin (16EG) itself sells for $44.95, so for five dollars more you can also get four uncirculated dollar coins. Just the face value of the dollar coins makes the package 'worth' $48.95. (I put 'worth' in single quotes because one might argue that the American Eagle is overpriced.)

Of course, if you don't have any interest in 2016 uncirculated dollar coins, it would make more sense to buy the Silver Eagle by itself.

But if you kinda like the dollar coins, doesn't this seem like a better than average price for the Mint?

---

On the other end of the spectrum, I find the price for Kennedy halves to be outrageously overpriced: Two rolls (40 coins) for over 82¢ each; and even if you buy 200 coins, they are 70¢ each! For a 50¢ piece! (And this does not even take into account the shipping cost.)

Contrast those prices with the Native American dollars, which sell for $1.12 each if you buy a bag of 100.

That's a markup of 12%, compared to 40% for Kennedy half dollars.

~ Mark

P.S. I have read the US Mint web page, How do you price your products?

So you get $4 for an extra $5.

That's a 25% markup (better than what the Mint gets when selling them in 100 coin bags).

I've always felt that the uncirculated dollar set (regardless of year) is/was a (relatively) good buy for the reasons you outlined above. The OGP isn't too shabby, either.

I have always liked this set. Decent packaging and reasonable price.

Question is just how many did they make last year/how many are left? 15,980 sold so far and they can't make any more.

The 2012 set had a mintage of over 28k and sells for $90-100 now.

If you want to keep track of availability, just add 100 items to your shopping basket and check every few days. If you see something like "only 78 available" when you go to your basket you know they're running low...

The main problem with the dollar coin set is that you only get half of the small dollars. If you want the ones from the other mint that's not included, you still have to buy them in another set. So in my opinion, the dollar coin set is pretty pointless to me.

The Annual Dollar Coin set is one of my favorites. I wish they came out with a special set where the dollar coins are all silver.
