Is this possible in another denomination?
Last March when I purchased an AG-3 hole filling 1834 large cent I inadvertently completed what I think is an odd yet amazing accomplishment. I now had a cent for every year from 1816-2016.
Large Cents 1816-1856, Flying Eagles 1856-1858, an Indian collection only missing the 1909-S, and at least one Lincoln from 1909 to 2016.
Accomplishing this with any other denomination has got to be close to impossible without extremely deep pockets. 1877 is the only year that costs real money for a modest collector. 1856 can be a large cent so you don't need the Flying eagle.
Has anybody else done this?
One could do a 600+ year run 0f British coppers I bet!

You don't need the 56 flying eagle to complete a US Cent 200 year collection, the 56 Large cent would count. Here is my pride & joy, its been on our family or 100+ years

That's one amazing collection. I know it can't be done with quarters.

Fantastic accomplishment!
As far as other denominations go, I think you would be hard pressed to go 200 years with anything else. I recall reading that half dollars were second to the cent in terms of continuity, but those would be a beast to collect!
In the total scope of numismatics, I think you could (with a limitless budget and several decades' patience) finish a British Maundy set; I think those have been issued every year since the 1600s. Not sure what else could be done; a lot of denominations did last centuries, but skipped years and date freezes were also very common.

Wow, Paddy! Congratulations on your achievement!
Unfortunately there are too many gaps in the British copper series to get as long a run as this. You could get a run of 110 copper and bronze halfpennies from 1851 to 1960. For British pre-decimal pennies the longest possible run would be 1853 to 1922 and for farthings 1872 to 1956. The only way you could get a similar long run with British coins would be by collecting Maundy sets - they have been minted every year since 1822.

Wow... Very nice Mr Paddy... Don't collect the U.S. large cent but, maybe I should? Are there any hard to find dates that a poor collector like me couldn't afford..

After a year hiatus Paddy, your new post and old post still leave me in awe. Care to share where this amazing collection from your family started.
