A 2$ bill is scarce, but I think the face value is really $2.00.

$2 bills are actually very common and can be picked up at most banks. The serial is close, but no cigar. Only worth $2.00.

Just wondering, why the U.S. continues to print $1 and $2 dollar paper money ..don't they realize that it costs lots to do this.

It has indeed been discussed many, many times on the forum before. From an outsider's perspective, there appear to be three fundamental reasons:

- People are, generally, conservative and don't like change. Give them a choice, and they will choose the familiar ($1 paper notes) rather than the new ($1 polymer notes or coins).

- There are political vested interests in the cotton-growing industry (which supplies the raw material for the paper) which try to squash all attempts at reducing government consumption of cotton.

- Americans didn't invent the latest-generation polymer note tech. If they wished to switch to polymer notes, they'd have to either invent something better, or license the current tech from other countries.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Technically it is 10,000 bills off but still a keeper for me for $2.

I have kept more than a few "almost" notes but they all seem to be $100's as that is what I get back when dumping halves.

In my personal opinion, it's almost entirely due to things related to Sap's point #2. (see?! you got us started!)

And yes, total bummer on that near miss of a $2. Great note anyway. To answer your original question ("is it worth anything?"), sure it is. Besides face value, it can secure some great conversation.

I'd have coffee with you and chat about it.
