A group of dealers I know bought a group of Russian 5 Kopeck coins.
A few hundred coins.

I have one of these, but not in as good of shape as some of these coins.

Of the three I am going to pick from I like the 1766 best ..l but my daughter
was born in 1985, so the 1785 might be a good choice.

These are very big crown/dollar size copper coins

Any opinions

I can only say they are impressive and I've always admired them.
They sure do weigh a lot- quite heavy in hand.

I agree ... for me the weight is part of why I like them.

a Morgan dollar weighs 26.7 grams, these 5 Kopeck weigh just over 50 grams

Buy them all !!
I love those large coppers. I would put together a date run if they were more available.
It is not easy to find those in higher grades.
If your dealer friends want to unload a fistful, send 'em my way.
Sometimes I envy your constant coin luck, good sir.

All three are in pretty good condition. If you trust their authenticity, why not pick up all three?

There is a good chance over time I pick up more than one.

But I am not sure what is a good price is for these coins.

They are asking $39 for the better condition, and I think $25 for the
lower grade coins.

Mysilveryyears .. I should have never read what you posted ...

The thought of doing a year run sounds interesting .. ouch

I did pick up the 1766 today

Picture of lower grade coins.

Those prices do seem a bit on the high side compared to what I see around here.
But maybe the dealers are plucking numbers from a catalog.
I have a few in the condition you describe as 'low grade' and iirc they cost $10-15 each.
Not much of a market for them in this area. Russian silver, on the other hand.. way up there.
Might be hard to resell the coppers, unless you go the ebay route.
GR, you are *really* going to have to open your own shop one of these days.

I was thinking they were a little high, I am not sure what price
point they got into these.

I have one of these in my collection, that I bought cheaper,
but it is a much lower grade.

I do think about that. But I know it is a lot of work to
run a coin shop. I will have to start selling .. someday.
ebay or coin shows might be the way I go.

Some years are scarce to rare. There are transitional years on some that are worth a fair bit. Mintmark TM is being the far rarest. If there is any mintmark with KM, AM or CM - they can be worth a bit as well. EM is just very common with the exception of certain years.

And then there's overstrikes, contemporary Swedish counterfeits, etc. Can't win everything in life.

That said, they are all in decent condition!
