I've seen a heck of a lot worse! But you're right; I wouldn't bid based on those.

Those aren't bad. They are in focus, lighted well, straight-on shots (not angled), and a decent picture size. I have seen worse photos on other auction sites, dealer sites, and on here I have even taken a few of those.

I think the pictures they have are just fine. Very clear and well lit.

Maybe it's perspective 'cuz it looks a lot better on our site.
edit: I'm revising my post because it shows how not being familiar with a site's features can contribute to perspective. When I first went to greatcollections_dot_com, I looked at the standard photo, then used the available magnifying glass and clicked once. My sleepless addled brain didn't see the little instruction at the bottom to click for an even larger picture. I wonder how many other (awake) people miss this if they rarely go to the site?
So, going to the maximum magnification, this is a fine photo of the coin. I only wish my own photos of coins were this descriptive, this representative of the coin's condition.
And I'm tossing that lame attempt of a joke at the end.

The pictures are fine, but I have a problem with the grading. They are considering all that obvious friction on the high points to be from something other than circulation? Because its only on the obverse? I'd have called it a 58.

I've never seen bad pics on GC.
In fact, I have permission from Ian to use them anywhere here, and I do.

Nor have I, they are fairly good with a camera.

You won't (see bad pics on GC). They had a pro setup their photography studio and workflow for them and train them. http://www.bluccphotos.com/a/history.htmlQuote: In October 2010, Ian Russell asked BluCC Photos to design a photography studio for his newly formed auction house, GreatCollections.com, which is located in Irvine, California. In November 2010, BluCC Photos worked with GreatCollections.com to purchase and design the studio, additionally BluCC Photos provided photography training to members of the auction-house staff. Today, GreatCollections.com provides some of the best images found on any auction-house website. After a very successful launch, and a great first year of auctions, the team at GreatCollections.com partially attributed their growth and success to the images they provide—images that BluCC Photos taught them to shoot.

If this is a bad picture, I'd like to see a great one.

Blow it up full size, you can see the scratch on the holder from the G of PCGS down to the 6 of the .61 grade.

I agree w/ And Tdrew9, not a MS anything, overgrade by few points. If you get into toned coins...

If that coin were not toned, you might not even notice that it has some wear. This is what collectors might call an AU-61. It's market grading, and you can accept it or not. To me a bunch of bags and poor eye appeal is a bigger sin than a light rub.
I'm not head over heals in love with this coin. I would not bid on it, but some people might because of its originality.

Sorry not a fan of these types of pics. Added to my list that includes Stacks and David Lawrence. I think I'm spoiled by Heritage's zoom in feature. I've bid on a couple of their auctions but NOT with conviction.
