This is a very distinct D/C that chipped away until at this stage it nearly plugs the "R" in GRATIA completely.
As a bit of a game is anyone familiar with or does anyone care to guess the year before I reveal the reverse?
I do and will have a question pertaining to the coin but it involves the date so I'll hold off on my question for now.

Cheers, Bill

I have this coin, but I don't have the photo labeled with the date. I think it was an 1896, but don't remember for sure.

Your memory is correct Mr Turner it is indeed an 1896.
I wasn't sure if anyone would recognize it or not but I'm not surprised that it was you.
Here's the photo of the reverse and a close-up of the date.
Is this just a ding to the "6" or a known doubled six?

Cheers, Bill

Rats! I was gonna "guess", but was watching golf so I missed the post and the answer. I have a few of them ... they are very distinctive, as D/C's/chips go..
