I have had these for quite a while. Advertising fliers, created to look sort of like currency, have been around for a long time. It gets your attention when you get one handed to you, or pick up one. The last one I got was about 6 years ago at the Chehalis vintage railroad. It looked like a large size US note and had advertising for a bank(or credit union) on the back. I wish I could find it.

I am always on the lookout for advertising notes from Washington state. They appear somewhat infrequently. Both of these are from Seattle. If anyone has some advertising notes from anywhere, please feel free to add them to this thread. I would love to see them.

Anyway, the first note is touting Boldt restuarants in Seattle. At the time this was made, James Boldt had 2 restaurants in the downtown area. I believe one of them survived until about 1970. The back of the note is very interesting as it shows the battleship USS Idaho in Seattle harbor. I have seen Boldt advertising in navy newspapers of the era, so obviously US navy folks were welcome there. I estimate this note was made sometime in the late 1920s.

This next note is a political piece, asking votes for a slate of folks running for office in Seattle. They are proud of the fact that between 1931 and 1933 taxes levied were reduced by about 50%. I think that perhaps the depression had more to do with it than fiscal sanity on the part of any politician. John F Dore was elected mayor of Seattle in 1932 and again in 1936, so, I guess this note was for either the 1934 or 1936 election.

Here's one I got as part of an auction lot of other notes. I paid it no attention at the time, but it turned out to be the most valuable item in the group! This was put out in 1874 by the San Francisco photography studio, Bradley & Rulofson. It's modeled after a one dollar National Gold Bank Note and they did a pretty good job!

GregAlex, that is very nice. It's kind of funny the stuff we think little of, only to find out later we get interested in.

Those are cool Yakima.

The only ones I've seen in person have been a couple of CSA notes on the front with advertising on the back. I think they were from the 1960s.

Really like the photography studio note too.

It would be nice to get the prices for the meals Boldt was advertising.
Rest in Peace

There are a surprising number of menu collectors, especially during the pre-1935 period. You might want to look for information from one of them.

I keep looking for Washington state advertising notes, but have not seen any for quite awhile.
