I did not have any of these in my collection (Canadian large cents) and for under $2 this seemed to be in decent shape for its age - 1904 Large Cent from Canada. Having never owned one I am not familiar with their grading and so solicit your opinions on a grade. :) Thank you! Hi paralyse, welcome to the wonderful world of Canada coins.. Not bad for $2, looks AU-50 to me but your pics are quite dark.

I would say EF-40. Welcome to Canadian large cents. I notice you are an EAC member. You should check out the varieties of Victoria large cents. They are every bit as fascinating as U.S. large and Half Cents, but much more affordable. Here is a good place to start. vickycents.com

Thanks! Verdi-Care is on the agenda. Seller's pictures so I will retake pictures once it is in my hands. I have quite a lot of UK QV issues & some QV British Territories so Vicky Canadian Large Cents seems like a natural addition to the collection as well.
Is there a good standard reference book I can add to my library for the Canadian Large Cents that covers varieties and such?

The Haxby web site is a must for 1859's if you go to vickycents of Canada that's Rob Turners site he has published 4 books now on 1858, 1858 9/8, Die & Diedems and 1890H + 1892 all very good reference books and if you can get a hold of a Charlton Canadian Coins 2011 65th edition these are all good books to own with lots of info and picture's of varieties.

There is a lot of useful variety information on the "Canadian Variety and error forum" at CCF. Many of the folks who produced the great resources papeldog mentioned above are contributors to the forum, and you can learn a great deal looking through the threads there.

Yes, Verdi-Care should help. I see this as VF-35 with a shot at 40.
