Here is another one of my dimes.....its a problem coin, and, frankly, I don't know just how one goes about grading problem coins. Help me further my education.

Au-harshly cleaned. Probably would have been graded au-50 before the cleaning but this one's been put through the wringer. Looks like they used sandpaper.

I would think you go about grading them just as a TPG would. You'd overlook the fact that it is cleaned and concentrate on the wear that is "other than cleaning scratches". Look at the Details. You'll never know exactly just how many of those scratches are due to the cleaning but look at the Liberty and the face and hair. The same Details that you would look at if it wasn't a problem coin. That's my take on it.

Because this is a key date there's a good chance it would be net-graded to VF30 or so and put in a problem-free holder. I bet the extremely bright lighting in these images make the hairlines look much worse than they are in-hand. That and the fact that it's magnified far greater than any grader would ever use.

This is still a $1,000 coin as-is.

I would expect this to sell for more than $1,000. You are showing us some nice dimes Ralph. AU details - cleaned. I would consign it to Gerry Fortin to get the most out of it if I wanted to sell it.
