So I found this gold nickel at work and I'm curious what it is, so far my expectations is it's just been gold plated, I gave a golden dime as well.

For years, various coins have been gold plated by companies to sell to consumers. Gold plated State Quarters or ASE with the figure of Liberty plated are common. Most consider that simply PMD

to CCF. I agree with my friends above. On the other hand, I think they're kinda cool even if they're not worth much. You've got a nickel and dime so look for a half, quarter, and cent & you've got a collection! Just a thought.

Yep, even though not worth much, still kinda cool. I have a Susan B. Anthony gold plated that's one of my favorite from-circulation finds.

Via roll hunting, I've found gold plated silver, annodized, and chrome plated silver dimes.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...

Also many people that work at facilities that do metal plating frequently plate coins just for the heck of it.
