It may go into a straight grade holder, but it isn't very attractive. VF.

Love this date; it's just "special" in comparison to the 1875 coins usually seen. I'd grade it as XF-45. Eye appeal is low due to the dark spots but this does not appear to be a problem coin.
I wonder if professional conservation would be warranted.

Poor eye appeal for me. The CC you posted looks better than this one but neither do much for me though.

I'd give it a 45 also. Some "MS70" and a few Q-tips might do wonders for it. PG

XF40 and while it's not the most beautiful piece it doesn't look below average in the eye appeal category. It appears to be in a PCGS holder so I wouldn't touch it. Some like their coins dirty.

i had it at technically an XF45 also but I can see it getting knocked a full grade due to eye appeal. I'm not a fan. I dont know what it costs to conserve a piece but as previously stated it could be a good candidate

EF-40, perhaps 45. Nice hair detail. I don't think it would straight grade.

It has EF-AU sharpness, but the dark spots are a big distraction. They look to be the kind of the spots that do not dip out no matter what you do. As such, those who have net graded this in the VF area are correct. My net grade would be VF-20.

This is not an impossible date to find inspite of the low mintage. Another one will come along without the problems.
