Last week I bid on, and won, this lot of 25 coins. There is a Bactrian drachm of Azes II, I think, but most of the rest of the coins were culls. However, there was one interesting coin in the lot. I paid $42 for all 25 coins. Here are the auction photos. Here is the Caligula VESTA As from the lot. It's not too bad. There are some encrustations on it, but it has a nice green patina, the obverse legends are full and you can read all of VESTA. It looks a lot better "in hand" than in my photos. I didn't have a Caligula in my collection. Paul Bulgerin

Nice to pick up a coin of Caligula for relatively cheap!

What's the green coin at lower left? Looks like a Col Nem but I doubt it is. Wondering about the small yellow one on the left too - doesn't look ancient at all! And is the really small AE in the lower middle a monogram, cross, or neither?
Mind you, at $42 for all I would've probably bought this even if the Caligula wasn't there, just for the variety. [EDIT: assuming I had that kind of money to spend, obviously.]

january1may,
No, it's not a COL NEM. Too bad.
There are two 17th century Spanish bronzes in the lot as well. One of them is the yellowish one I think you mentioned.

Paul, I have a method that might be able to remove the calcium deposits on the Caligula coin. I hesitate to post it here because it really isn't an approved method. I have used it in the past with good result without hurting the coin. PM me if you want to find about it.

Speaking of Caligula, my wife and I ate lunch at a well-known, big chain seafood restaurant. I had the choice of soup or salad with my entre. I said my salad preference was a Caesar Salad. The waiter said they no longer served Caesar Salad. I took a breath and asked, "then can I have the Caligula soup?"

Great find on the Caligula, but the coin at the middle left... is that a Zengid fals? That could blow the Caligula and the Azes out of the water in terms of value. Nice pick up! E: Looks like this might be the ID of that coin... https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=132834If so, this coin by itself could easily recover the cost of the lot, possibly even more.

echizento,
I'm curious about your method, but haven't sent a PM from CCF and don't know how to do it.
Help?

Finn, Here are photos of the coin you pointed out - Sandig. Can you share any more information on it? Here's the image you pointed out.

Unfortunately, Arabic is not my strong suit so I couldn't tell you if my attribution is 100% correct. I think some members on here might be able to read it, or else you could post it to a site like Zeno.ru. I have seen similar coins go on ebay and usually fetch $60-80.
