Looks like a struck through wire or something. The bottom of the "Valley" is smooth unlike what a scratch would produce.
What do you all think ?

Looks like it was pressed against something hot. But why weren't the rims affected?

Maybe struck though a rolling fold or planchet burr? Thanks, Doug.

Is it raised or recessed?

That would be cool if this is what it is. Would be a large one.

Looks like a struck through something. Distinct edges. No zinc showing.

I guess the million dollar question is struck through what.
Seems a little to "ragged" to be wire. It does look like it could be a planchet burr. Not sure what one looks like exactly but I would think something like this.

I found a coin once that had pieces of fiber on the coin.

I found it in a OBW roll. Wondered why it was so ugly then under the scope it showed me why it was so ugly. You can see on the first image where it was, but moved a bit leaving an altered area. First time I've seen that on a coin.

That's neat. Guess just about anything can get on the planchets.
