This coin was cracked out of a straight-grade PCGS holder (not by me.) It's a 1901 Morgan dollar, a tough date in any grade and one of the semi-keys. I have not looked up the VAM yet -- thoughts on a grade (& vs. what PCGS's original slab grade was?) It's a later die state with some subsidence towards the rims and roughness in the fields, most notably on the obverse. There is luster remaining.

Coin has spent some time in a Dansco album, by the previous owner who had cracked it out. Now it's in my Dansco instead.

Looks AU-50 to me. While the obverse may have been lightly wiped at some point, I think it's clean enough to escape a details grade

Since the op said it was cracked from a straight PCGS holder, it looks like it did indeed escape a details grade. I don't think it should have. Coin is also unattractively marked up with hits and scratches all over the fields and devices.

It's quite nice in hand, the photos are not exceptionally great. It's nice to finally fill another tougher date hole in my Morgan set, too. The dealer is going to get me in touch with a local Morgan enthusiast to help me try to get the 1903-O, 1888-S, 1899, 1879-CC, 1889-CC, 1881-CC, 1893-CC, 1902-S, 1895-S by some means of trading and/or cash. The 1894, 1895, 1893-S are beyond my means for the indefinite future, unfortunately. The dealer had a MS62 1903-O that was decent for the grade but I passed at $375.

Those 12 coins are the last 12 I need to finish a full set.
