I basically work in a not so common job that deals with a lot of currency and coins daily from the public. I Have worked in this field for over 25 years and have been collecting coins and currency for the last six years . Within the last year and I have been collecting currency, fancy notes , star notes, etc since then Here is my question /dilemma . Basically I see videos Ofpeople that go through bank straps and find star notes and fancy serial numbers and get excited when they find one or two but I literally see at least 20 a day and I'm not Joking I don't work at a bank but more with gambling establishment . Point is I pay for them as I run across them and take home but I'm seeing so many now it's like hard to keep up finically lol. I mean 15 to 20 bucks a day adds up and that does not include the fancy notes , plus the other larger denominations or the large amount I don't see from the other workers lol What would you do in my position , collect only the good star notes, or big bills or fancy notes etc etc. I'm to the point I have to make a decision so I don't put myself in a bind but can't stand to let them go lol. Just curious what you guys would do. Btw I wanted to get as much advice as I could so copied and pasted same the question from another forum I posted in on another site just in case you read this . Added link to just one of my currency albums. there are a mixture of errors, Fancy notes, low serial numbers etc. this album only includes ones threw ten dollar bills. I'll upload the twenties to the same album later when I get a chance. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B...tRlhqN2NwNjQThanks for your help Edited by Bjones1309 06/16/2017 09:52 am

Star notes are neat, but only the older series star nots begin to increase in value. Similarly, fancy serial #'s are only valuable if they are very fancy. For example, a note with the serial number 45454582 may be eye-catching because of all the 45's, but has little to no value above face. A note with the serial number 12345678 IS very valuable, and very sought after. Realistically, you probably do not need to keep many of the notes you have. Collectors will only pay big money for the really fancy numbers, not the almost-fancy. If you do believe you have a note or notes that are very fancy, post pictures here and we can evaluate it.

Here are some sites that might help: http://www.uspapermoney.info/Click on 'serial number tables' then select the series, and then scroll down to see the star note print size. Low print runs have some premium value and, of course, the condition of the note matters. http://coolserialnumbers.com/FancyS...Numbers.aspxYou are probably already familiar with sites like this one, but scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on 'my article' to get an idea of rarity. Other than that, you can look up the SOLD prices for comparable items on ebay. If you find you have a note that has some premium value but you don't want to keep it, try taking it to a coin show or coin shop and see what they offer. Selling several at a time will help make it worth your time. But, feel free to post them here. We love to look at pics.

Ask the members here first if the numbers are worth anything other than spending then try selling here to help fund your hobby! It's a win - win situation.

Star notes are generally not worth much if anything over face. But then you are getting them for face, so the downside is what exactly?
We had a kid here a few months back that was so excited to find a bank that had a stack of a hundred $100 star notes and he borrowed $10,000 from his dad to "buy" them from the bank, hoping to sell them for $5 over a piece. Most of us advised him to just take them back to the bank...

Put everything on ebay. Use the "sell similar" feature and list away.

I don't run into many Star notes but I keep everyone that I do. Most are not in the best of shape and would not get any premium so I basically keep Star notes as an emergency cash fund.
I understand if you run into a bunch of Star notes it probably isn't feasible to keep all of them or any at all. If you can afford it, maybe pick a few of them once a week or maybe every other week and keep for emergency cash till you have what you think will help you out in a pinch and stop.

It's not a dumb question and it's a common dilemma. Post some pics of your best ones. If you don't think they're worth posting... probably best to spend them and use the money for something else. If you've been putting $15-20 worth away a day for 6 years, I would think you'd have some pretty good ones lurking in there.

For the record I just wanted to thank everyone for their response. I will upload pictures I took of my album last night. This is just one of many albums like this and you can just go through the pictures and let me know what you think as far your expertise and experience. Selling has really never been a priority but has crossed my mind. , mainly just wanted to collect them and I knew at some point I probably would sell some of them but I think I'm to that point where I need to at least consider selling some that are in demand right now
Will post pics in a minute when I get them uploaded to my server

Looking at your pictures, you should keep all the $1s with the blue seals. You have all three small-note $1 silver certificate dates! 1929, 1935, and 1957.
