I have a 94 penny with what looks like possible doubling on the 4 in the date and also the L in liberty. Any info or replies are appreciated.

Looks like a die gouge to me not a doubled die.

Ok, thank you. Would a die gouge create an impression or indentation on the surface of the object or leave a raised line or area such as what is alongside the number 4? Thank you.

It does seem to be a die gouge. Should have done my homework before asking the question. However, thank you for your reply. Still learning as I go.

Just remember anything gouged or polished into the die will be raised on the coin.

Me too! I think that a gouge in the die would leave a raised feature on the coin.

Note the design is not exact with the corresponding devices. So it is not a hub issue (doubled die). If it were a doubled die then other devices in that area would also be affected, which they are not. So it is an issue with the die as mentioned a die gouge, die damage or something else. But it is not Die Deterioration. Because if flows behind the 4 in one area, it tells me it is on the field of the die that is affected.
